St. Joseph Hospital, Burbank
Disney Studios in Burbank City, California is sort of like a factory of dreams. Here, imaginative, creative and childlike minds work night and day to come up with something whimsical and fantastic to show on the big screen or on television. However, who would have known that just across the street from the Disney Studios in Burbank, the St. Joseph Medical Center can be found. And while Disney tries to come up with fantastic stories in wonderful lands, the staff and medical practitioners in the St. Joseph Hospital also try to showcase hope, brotherhood and miracles through a different means.
The Saint Joseph Hospital in the City of Burbank was founded more than half a century ago by a non-profit Catholic organization called the Sisters of Providence Health System. Like many things, the Saint Joseph Medical Center was only a small facility with limited services in the beginning. It grew however, with time and support from the community, private sectors and the government, and it now has more than 450 beds and served by more than 2,500 hospital staff members and medical physicians.
The latest addition to the facilities of the St. Joseph Hospital would be a cancer center funded thanks to the good people just across the street, Disney Studios. It was here in the St. Joseph Medical Center that famed founded of Disney Studios, Walt Disney himself, passed away after a battle with lung cancer. It was probably because of this that the Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center would soon be founded at the St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank.
It seems very inspiring to see two completely unconnected institutions that happen to be located by circumstances in front of each other help and support the aims and goals of each other. It is also very nice to witness how a large wealthy company such as Walt Disney Pictures give back to the community through their support of a local hospital such as the St. Joseph Medical Center.
