Economy
The economy of Burbank California is centered on the movie and entertainment industry. Though the glamour of Hollywood is more famous, the behind the scenes work like production and what not actually takes place in Burbank.
Many of the big names in the movie and entertainment industry have made Burbank their primary base of operations. Some of the companies with studios or headquarters located in Burbank are NBC< ABC, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, New Wave Entertainment, DIC Entertainment, Dick Clark Productions, The Walt Disney Company, Technicolor, Warner Bros. and Warner Music Group.
Before Lockheed moved their operation from Burbank, the city was also one of the main producers of planes in the world. Lockheed Aircraft Corporation made Burbank their headquarters during World War II making a huge impact with their war effort and thus improved Burbank’s economy and prompting thousands of Americans to move to the west.
After a while though, Burbank was soon invaded by another force, the movie industry when Warner Bros. staked their claim and never looked back. The third oldest American movie studio in history next to Paramount Pictures and Universal Studios, Warner Bros. was established in 1918 by the four founding Warner brothers, Harry Warner, Albert Warner, Sam Warner and Jack L. Warner. Other studios and entertainment companies followed and thus Burbank’s reputation as a hubbub of the entertainment and movie business.
The per capita income of Burbank plays around the figure of about $25,000 a year as compared to about $21,000 nationally making the city one of the more economically viable cities in the United States. Burbank, together with Hollywood, contributes a great deal with the overall economy of California with their productions and films.
